What is Therapeutic Listening® and How Can It Help My Child?

Therapeutic Listening® is a sound-based program rooted in the work of Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis. It uses specially designed music to support the brain’s ability to process sensory information. This program is often used by occupational therapists to help children with challenges in attention, regulation, sensory processing, and communication.

Through daily listening sessions with headphones, the music stimulates the auditory and nervous systems, helping children become more alert, organized, and better able to participate in everyday activities. It’s a powerful tool that works alongside OT to support your child’s development, focus, and emotional regulation.

Therapists tailor the program to your child’s unique needs and integrate it into their OT plan for the best results. Listening is a function of the entire brain; when we listen, we listen with the whole body.
